The residents of Lancaster Place live in an historic part of Houston. With numerous vintage homes, tree lined streets, nearby museums, galleries, restaurants, shopping, parks and other special attractions, our neighborhood is truly at the center of it all. But this central and largely pleasant location needs constant vigilance to remain a special place in which to live. Because we reside in a city where few-to-none residential zoning protections exist—and where non-stop commercial and residential redevelopment is the norm—it is critical that we band together for two major purposes: to preserve and protect the uniqueness, order and safety of our neighborhood; and to have a major say in any development or other significant physical or social change that may take place within our boundaries. These reasons—and more—are why there is an Association. Within it are an elected group of officers who organize and conduct Association meetings and, along with the help of other dedicated Association members, keep in constant touch with City officials, the police, realtors, business owners and other “third” parties who are having—or have the potential to have—an impact on our neighborhood. . Membership Indeed, there is strength in numbers. There are around 200 homes in Lancaster Place, many of them owner occupied. But membership is currently somewhere in the neighborhood of 20+%. We are currently working hard to sign up new members.
Who can join the Association? If you own, rent or otherwise represent a residence in the 1500, 1600, 1700 and part of the 1800 blocks of Sul Ross, Branard, West Main and Colquitt—as well as the east or west sides of Mandel, Dunlavy and Woodhead between Richmond and W. Alabama--you qualify!!
Does it cost anything to join the Association? Yes. While an annual membership has is privileges, it also has its (minor) monetary costs. While the officers receive no compensation, the Association does need money for legal fees, postage, AC costs, and other necessities. Dues are $45 owners, $35 renters. Only paying members may vote for new officer slates or other matters of Association importance.
