EVENTS AT THE HAVENS CENTER (ST. STEPHEN’S CHURCH):

Each of these events is open not only to those affiliated with St. Stephen’s or
Havens Center, but also to residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.

NEIGHBORHOOD OPEN HOUSE AND POT-LUCK SUPPER
January 21, 6:30 p.m.
Bring a dish (anything from appetizer to dessert) and meet your neighbors! All
are welcome. Havens Center will provide water and soft drinks.

THE ART OF SACRIFICE
February 24-26
This is Number Six in a series of Art Shows at Havens Center, this one part of
Lenten reflection. All members of the broader St. Stephen’s community are
invited to create some expression of what “sacrifice” means to them. The results
will be exhibited over the February weekend during Lent.
Participants could include:
• The participants of Havens Center’s after-school program for middle-
school students
• Students of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School Houston
• Students of Lanier Middle School
• Amateur and professional artists from the community
Schedule of events:
Friday evening: opening reception
Saturday and Sunday, during the day, open to the public
Sunday evening: coordinate with a Quarterly Neighborhood Pot Luck

LENTEN MEDITATIONS
February 25, 6:30 p.m.
This is to be an evening of silent meditation. At the end of the meditation, each
participant will write a personal, private thought and tie it to a common pole/rope/
bush as an offering to his/her private spirit.

“MARAT SADE’” A DRAMATIC READING
March 17, 6:30 p.m.
Sandy Havens and Charles Tanner will read excerpts from the debate between
the main characters of this play (or perhaps another selection).

READING OF A NEW PLAY
April 21, 6:30 p.m.
Grace Cunyus will organize HSPVA classmates–and perhaps other students
affiliated with St. Stephens and Havens Center–to read her new play. The work,
currently in progress, deals with the election of officers to a high school thespian
organization. The intention is to draw on the rich resources of the parish to bring
some cutting-edge theater to Haven’s Center.

IMPROVISATION: THEATER WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE
June 16, 2:00-5:00 and 6:30
Saturday, 10:00 – 4:00 One-day Improvisation workshop, organized by
HSPVA students, open to students from St. Stephen’s School/Church.
Saturday, 7:00-9:00 Interactive performance with “troupe” and audience.
Coffee and cookies following performance.
